Good morning, beloved children of God. We pray that you are all doing well at school and at home. We hope you are respecting and obeying your parents, for the Word of God instructs us to honour our parents so that we may live long on the earth. Did you know that this is the only commandment with a promise attached to it?
Today, we shall learn about a man called Zacchaeus. The book of Saint Luke chapter 19 verse 1–8 tells us about this short tax collector. One day, as Christ Jesus was passing through Jericho, Zacchaeus sought to see Him.
Guess what? He could not see Christ Jesus because he was very short and the crowd around Him was very big. Do you know what Zacchaeus did? He ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree so that he could at least catch a glimpse of Christ Jesus.
As Christ Jesus walked by, He looked up, saw Zacchaeus in the tree, and said, “Come down, for today I will be a guest in your house.” Zacchaeus came down quickly and received Christ Jesus with great joy.
However, some people were not happy about the visitation going to take place. They murmured among themselves, saying, “Doesn’t Christ Jesus know that the man He wants to visit is a sinner?”
When Jesus arrived at Zacchaeus’s house, Zacchaeus the rich tax collector, stood up and said to the LORD, “Behold, LORD, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Then Christ Jesus then said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, for Zacchaeus also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Here are some lessons we can learn from this Biblical account and always remember:
1. God Almighty seeks the lost: He came to seek and save the lost, and He actively looked for Zacchaeus from the sycamore tree that he had climbed and He found him.
2. Yearning for God yields fruits: Zacchaeus’ desire to see Christ Jesus led to a life-changing encounter.
3. God sees and knows us: Jesus knew Zacchaeus’ name and saw him even when he was hiding in a tree that means that God knows us all our good or bad. When you choose to turn to Him that is when He will recognize you just like He recognized Zacchaeus the tax collector.
So, dear child of God, if anything is not right in your life, you know whom to turn to. Just as Zacchaeus turned to Christ Jesus, you too should turn to Him in every situation. He is beside you. Shalom.
