It is a beautiful day that the LORD has given us, and I am so glad you are here. Today’s story is a very special one, and I am truly excited to share it with you. It is a story about brothers choices, and the lessons we can learn from their lives.

So come closer, open your heart, and get ready to discover something that will guide you, help you grow, and remind you how much God cares for you. A long time ago, Adam and Eve, the first humans, had two sons named Cain and Abel. Cain was the older brother, and Abel was the younger.

When the two brothers grew up, Cain became a farmer and Abel became a shepherd. When it was time for the harvest, both brothers brought their offerings before the LORD to show their love and gratitude.

Abel, being a shepherd, brought the best of his flock, a perfect lamb. Cain, being a farmer, brought some of his crops as an offering to the LORD. Do you know what happened next? The LORD was pleased with Abel and his offering, but He was not pleased with Cain’s offering. God Almighty accepted Abel’s gift, but He did not accept Cain’s.

Now the story becomes very serious, because something happens in Cain’s heart. He became angry and jealous of his brother Abel. Cain’s jealousy grew into hatred, and he made a terrible decision. He took Abel out into a field and killed him.

Genesis chapter 4 verse 8 tells us that Cain talked with Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. While Cain was still in the field, God Almighty came. He asked Cain where Abel was, but Cain lied and said he did not know.

Of course, God Almighty knew exactly what Cain had done. Because of his actions, Cain was punished. Cain became a wanderer, and no one would give him shelter.

In Genesis 4:11–12, God Almighty said: “Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it shall no longer give you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”

Lessons to Learn From This Biblical Event:

1. God Almighty wants us to obey and honour Him: Cain’s offering was not accepted because it was not given with the right heart. He wanted Cain to bring his best with love and honour. This teaches us that God looks at our hearts, not just our actions (1 Samuel chapter 16 verse 7).

2. Jealousy and anger can lead to sin: Cain’s jealousy and anger led him to commit a terrible act. When we allow these feelings to control us, they can push us into sin and hurt those around us.

3. God sees and knows everything: God knew exactly what Cain had done. Nothing is hidden from Him. He sees all we do and knows our hearts (Psalm chapter 139 verse 1–4).

4. Sin has consequences, but God offers forgiveness and redemption: Cain faced serious consequences for his sin, yet God still showed him mercy by protecting him. This teaches us that even when we do wrong, God is willing to forgive and restore us if we turn back to Him. God is merciful and forgiving (Psalm chapter 103 verse 8–12).

This is a very important lesson for us, sin has consequences, therefore we should stay away from things that bring sin on our lives. Let us embrace love and when we get jealousy, envy or pride, quickly run to the Holy Spirit and let Him help you. He  is our helper in times of distress.
